Design a housewares product inspired by designers or artists associated with movements in modernism
CHARLOTTE PERRIAND
Charlotte's insight: “The most important thing to realize is that what drives the modern movement is a spirit of inquiry. It’s a process of analysis and not a style.” Charlotte viewed design as reflection of social contexts, emerging manufacturing processes, and newly developed uses for materials.
led by emerging technologies & social contexts
An artist and inventor. His work with objects was in the form of readymades—an art movement in response to mass manufacturing. Surrealists who participated in this art form aimed to elevate ordinary objects to works of art.
MAN RAY
unique for each user & up-cycled
NAOM GABO
A lover of mathematics, engineering, and constructivism; he believed art should show the underlying mathematical laws governing our universe. His art explored different ways to convey movement.

Mushroom grow kit
A mushroom grow kit reflects current social contexts involving a growing interest in producing healthy foods at home, a focus on meat alternatives and concerns with sustainable living (mushrooms are natural decomposers).
Additive Manufacturing
Additive manufacturing is an emerging manufacturing method. A unique affordance of this method is the ability to design with recently developed mathematically based modeling programs (procedural generation) that can produce infinitely unique iterations for each user.
Post-Consumer Materials
High-density Polyethene (HDPE) is a highly recyclable, food safe, and FDA approved polymer. Much research has already been conducted on recycling this material into useable filament for additive manufacturing applications.

Using procedural generation lets the customer explore to find their unique object. With this idea, the shopping experience is designed into the product.
The infinite variety designed into this product shows a truth about life—as Noam Gabo believed art should do, reflects current social contexts concerning the inclusion of differences, sustainability, and healthy diet—following the advice of Charlotte Perriand, and elevates an ordinary object—following Man Ray's ideology.
